Photoshop Time Portals to World War 2

I think this is a great idea. A photographer searches for historic photos (in this case World War 2 and Russia) and merges them exactly with modern photographs. The end result is incredibly impressive:

Gobekli Tepe: World’s First Temple

I’m a huge fan of Jared Diamond’s work, in particular ‘Guns, Germs and Steel’. As such I always get excited when I see reports on the dawn of civlization and the movements of early man.

Smithsonian Mag has a report that a recent discovery may indicate that society did not spawn religion but that religion in fact spawned society. They have discovered a temple in Turkey which predates Stonehenge by 6,000 years.

Six miles from Urfa, an ancient city in southeastern Turkey, Klaus Schmidt has made one of the most startling archaeological discoveries of our time: massive carved stones about 11,000 years old, crafted and arranged by prehistoric people who had not yet developed metal tools or even pottery. The megaliths predate Stonehenge by some 6,000 years. The place is called Gobekli Tepe, and Schmidt, a German archaeologist who has been working here more than a decade, is convinced it’s the site of the world’s oldest temple.
